Placement within the range will be determined based on your similar
work experience. The Port considers work experience to be similar
if the scope and level of responsibility of your prior positions
match the job being offered.Some of what you'll be doing:
- You will coordinate, plan, and implement facility-wide systems
and be a subject matter expert for mechanical fire and life safety
systems, including active smoke control, firefighter smoke control
panels, fire suppression, fire risers and standpipes, fire
sprinklers, fire pumps, clean agent extinguishing systems,
fire/smoke dampers, kitchen hoods, and smoke control modeling.
- You will lead developing and defining asset management program
for mechanical assets.
- You will conduct annual inventory and verification for
financial regulatory requirements and develop renewal and
replacement programs for systems.
- You will develop requirements and perform lead planning studies
to support long-term vision.
- You will prepare and present presentations and memos for
leadership to explain planning initiatives.
- You will lead the development of preventative maintenance
programs for operations and maintenance of mechanical
infrastructure and systems to maintain aviation operations and
maximize life cycle of systems.
- You will prepare master record utility drawings using
computer-aided drafting software or other applications for use in
planning, design, and emergency response.
- You will prepare system calculations to ensure sufficient
capacity to meet new demand.
- You will develop, maintain, and govern mechanical design
guidelines and standards for facility and infrastructure.
- You will stay abreast of pending regulatory mandates, monitor
industry best practices, and evaluate emerging technologies for
inclusion or implementation in facilities.
- You will conduct integration of new methods, systems,
technologies, materials, programs or processes including research
of innovative or specialized solutions.
- You will strategically initiate and sponsor capital projects to
support comprehensive infrastructure plan and implement design
vision to provide critical input to Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) required capital development plan.
- You will evaluate project design drawings for large capital and
expense projects for conformance to standards and specifications
and coordination with other capital projects and expansion of
existing infrastructure.
- You will respond to questions and issue waivers related to Port
standards and requirements and ensure compliance with codes,
regulatory requirements, code revisions and environmental
regulations.
- You will provide construction administration for large size
capital projects including submittals, Request for Information
(RFI), site observation, construction meetings, and punch walks.Who
you are:
- Experienced - You have ten (10) years of experience in
infrastructure planning, design, integration, modeling,
maintenance, construction, and/or project management related to
facilities. A bachelor's degree in engineering may be substituted
for four (4) years of experience. You have a Mechanical or Fire
Protection Professional Engineering license.
- Desired - We hope you have a bachelor's degree in engineering.
You have also demonstrated a proven ability to apply relevant codes
and standards, including International Building Code, International
Fire Code, and National Fire Protection Association standards.

teams.What else you need to know:
- Work Schedule - Your normal work schedule will be Monday -
Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more
flexible start and end times are available in this role. Periodic
evening or overnight work will be required in this role to support
confidence testing of systems. Regular predictable attendance
required.
- Work Environment - This work will take place in a
hybrid/in-office setting at Management's discretion. You will also
visit mechanical/electrical spaces, utility tunnels, active
construction sites, and outdoors while working frequently near
operating equipment such as boilers, chillers, fans, pumps, baggage
handling equipment, tugs, and aircraft.
- Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must
establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their
first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington
State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a
position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking
must be performed in Washington State.
- Safety Requirements - You will be required to comply with all
work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
requirements.
- Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must
pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background
check as well as a criminal history background check with the
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be
contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon
clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and
Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.Why you'll
