Scientist II will support the research informatics ecosystem of
Fred Hutch by developing and maintaining computational tools and
resources to better facilitate and advance bioinformatic research
across the Fred Hutch community. This position will participate in
multiple translational research collaborations involving a range of
genomic, imaging, and other laboratory-generated data types.
Contribute bioinformatics and technical expertise through
sustainable coding/data management practices to provide achievable
and reproducible analyses and galvanize best practices throughout
Fred Hutch.Responsibilities
- Work with collaborators and their staff to create automated
processing, filtering, and organization of genomic data sets and
assist in managing this to support reporting processes.
- Develop and document reproducible approaches to data curation,
bioinformatic processing, quality assessment, and communication of
results to collaborators.
- Create and share reproducible bioinformatic analysis pipelines
for use by the translational research community via GitHub and
OCDO-supported programs.
- Process large sequencing datasets derived from high-throughput
short-read sequencing including exome sequencing, targeted DNA
sequencing panels, bulk RNA sequencing, single cell RNA sequencing
(10x Genomics), and emerging single cell analysis approaches using
curated bioinformatics workflows.
- Create and maintain useful portals and interactive data
visualizations for viewing bioinformatic data.
- Provide figures and written sections to document methods and
results for manuscripts, presentations, technical documentation,
and grant applications.QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA., B.S. in computational biology, biostatistics, computer
science, data science, biophysics, bioinformatics, or a related
field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in data science, bioinformatics,
or related disciplines.
- Graduate degrees can apply towards this minimum (M.A./M.S. = 2
years, PhD = 4+ years)PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate degree in computational biology, biostatistics,
computer science, data science, biophysics, bioinformatics, or a
related field.
- Experience with data governance processes for working with
regulated data.
- Direct experience with best-practice germline & somatic variant
calling from exome capture data, analysis of bulk RNA-seq data with
multiple contrasts, and analysis of multimodal single-cell
profiling data.
- Proficiency in Python and/or R programming, with knowledge of
the appropriate tools and libraries for working with biological
data.
- Well-versed in the standard library of open-source
bioinformatics tools (e.g. GATK, samtools, bwa, etc).
- Familiarity with scientific workflow languages (Nextflow, WDL,
etc.) and high-performance computing/cloud-based computing
resources (e.g. Slurm, AWS).
- Familiarity with the use of version control software (Git) and
open-source programming norms (e.g. version control, unit testing,
continuous integration) in a collaborative setting.
- Exposure to the creation, use, and maintenance of Docker
containers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.The annual
base salary range for this position is from $102,419 to $161,866,
and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.This
position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.This position may be
