Fred Hutch's Philanthropy program raises funds for cancer and related disease research, care, and education to help Fred Hutch become the world's best cancer center. Since the April 2022 merger that led to the formation of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Fred Hutch has served as the cancer program for UW Medicine, and Philanthropy is proud to raise funds that fuel the adult oncology program on behalf of both Fred Hutch and UW Medicine.
Following board approval of an ambitious, 10-year comprehensive campaign, our team of more than 110 will grow to more than 150 over the next three years. Philanthropy staff implement high-performing, relationship-based fundraising programs that engage and inspire thousands of supporters who are passionate about preventing and eliminating cancer and infectious disease. Our FY25 goal includes increasing our annual fundraising, deepening our patient family fundraising, and advancing the first phase of our comprehensive campaign through Fred Hutch's 50th anniversary in 2025. The Senior Prospect Management and Research Strategist role is part of Philanthropy's Advancement Services team and reports to the Director of Prospect Management and Research (PMR.) Advancement Services supports and strengthens Philanthropy's infrastructure and operations by managing, analyzing, and leveraging the data needed to inform and advance organizational strategy and execution. Advancement Services (AS) includes seven integrated and collaborative work groups including Learning and Development, Prospect Management and Research, Data Reporting and Analytics, Software Integration Programming, Gift Services and Data Management, Project Management and Planning, and Gift and Estate Management.
This position contributes to the maintenance and growth of comprehensive prospect management and prospect research best practices. Metrics accountability, strategy coordination with fundraisers, and thoughtful management of prospects through the Philanthropy prospect/donor lifecycle are key components of this work. The position is responsible for partnering with frontline fundraisers to build their effectiveness by providing high-level strategic briefings on major gift prospects, using a wide variety of ethical sources to analyze and synthesize intelligence that informs financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, and linkages to Fred Hutch priorities.
This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.
This position is a hybrid role with a minimum 2 days per week at our South Lake Union campus. Candidates should submit a cover letter with their application in order to be considered. -
Responsibilities
PRIMARY/ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


  • Adhere to and understand the organization's prospect and portfolio management procedures, as well as of the ethical guidelines of the profession as outlined by Apra
  • Demonstrate knowledge of portfolio management best practices around the donor cycle, prospect and opportunity statuses and their links
  • Interpret, communicate, and administer prospect management guidelines for frontline staff, recommending changes that reflect the changing needs of the team
  • Act as a resource for portfolio management procedures
  • Aid in the interpretation and updating of opportunity data to ensure that current strategic plans and campaign fundraising projections are accurate
  • Update portfolio assignments as needed, as well as reporting out on the changes to frontline staff
  • Create timely, strategic briefings on major gift prospects, which include analyses of donor gift capacity, philanthropic motivation/interests, timing of gift, engagement with Fred Hutch, and factors affection wealth. Identify critical information that may be missing that could guide engagement efforts.
  • Review news for business and development trends and monitor news about key prospects for potential impact on cultivation and solicitation
  • Assist in making recommendations for the placement of prospects in particular gift officer portfolios through the use of basic research data (capacity, philanthropic giving to others, etc.)
  • Review and screen new leads that are generated from gift reports; assist in the development of new reports and processes by which to identify prospects at all capacity levels.
  • Distinguish general campaign phases and describe the role of the PMR team in supporting campaign objectives to other philanthropy staff. Demonstrate knowledge of campaign goals and priorities.
  • Assist in creating projects to identify prospects for key campaign initiatives; help manage the infrastructure to keep the best prospects moving into portfolios.
  • Assist in the development of PM reports for the campaign
  • Work collaboratively across various teams: Prospect Researchers, Data and Reporting, Gift Services, Frontline Fundraisers, and the Chief Philanthropy Executive for Individual Giving
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of donor information always
  • Other duties as assigned

          Qualifications
          MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

          • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
          • At least five years of prospect management and prospect research experience
          • Expert proficiency with standard research tools, including fundraising databases, wealth screening vendors, and online services
          • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel
          • Understanding of fundraising standards and methodologies
          • Strong ability to synthesize and summarize relevant information into coherent narratives that guide strategy
          • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and an aptitude for critical thinking
          • Previous experience leading moderately complex projects; strong project management skills
          • Ability to anticipate needs and show initiative in proposing new projects that improve processes
          • Experience collaborating and coordinating technical issues with technical resources; strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to drive solutions to problems through project teams.
          • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and juggle priorities
          • Exceptional interpersonal and team building skills, including diplomacy required to interact and collaborate effectively with all philanthropy staff
          • Takes initiative, collaborates with multiple team members, works on multiple projects simultaneously and flexible with changing priorities and deadlines
          • Strategic thinker who is creative and willing to think beyond traditional boundaries
          • Comfortable working within a complex organization
          • Ability to work with sensitive information and demonstrates strong commitment to professional ethics and confidentiality

            PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

            • Expert level understanding of fundraising standards and methodologies
            • Raiser's Edge/RENXT experience
            • Experience with, SharePoint, Smartsheet and Tableau
            • A sense of curiosity and enthusiasm toward learning

              The annual base salary range for this position is from $72,946 to $109,408, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. - -Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
