employees.DevOps Engineers automate software builds, test and
deployment systems, and infrastructure as code. DevOps Engineers
manage various development, test, staging, and demo environments
(code deployment using Continuous Improvement (CI)/Continuous
Delivery (CD) pipelines, backups, data refreshes), as well as
deploy and manage software into Costco's production environment
while leveraging as much automation as possible. They are
responsible for continually advancing the technology in a
collaborative and creative agile environment using many of the
latest technologies and industry best practices and finding better
and more efficient ways of delivering solutions that meet business
objectives.The Costco Cloud team is responsible for providing
multi-cloud infrastructure and the associated platforms, tools, and
services required to onboard applications into the cloud globally.
The Foundational Engineering team, architects, designs, and manages
the implementation and configuration of Costco's cloud platforms.
The Cloud Express team is responsible for development of a
zero-touch automated platform that deploys cloud infrastructure for
value streams. The Cloud Onboarding team reviews value streams
proposals and assigns priority to onboard applications to the cloud
and provides feedback and recommendations for architecture,
platforms, and resources. The Cloud Automation Tools team is
responsible for the tools leveraged to store and deploy
infrastructure as code to build resources within Costco's hybrid,
multi-cloud platforms. It is essential that the solutions factor in
a multi-cloud environment and that requirements are gathered to
clearly understand fit for purpose when designing or assisting with
the solution. All of these functions leverage IaC best practices
for implementation and configuration to maintain strong security
posture, provide traceability, and ensure consistency.If you want

- Identifies, creates, and applies software development and
security standards and practices.
- Plans, designs, and documents software components.
- Develops and operates end-to-end automated solutions for IT ops
activities (including deployment, release management, monitoring,
etc.)
- Collaborates with Operations, Development, and QA functions to
develop solutions that are predisposed to scalability and
simplified maintenance.
- Configures and maintains on-premises and Azure cloud
infrastructure to ensure availability, performance, scalability,
and security of development, testing and production environments,
relying on automated scripts and configuration management
tools.
- Creates and manages Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Maintains, extends, and builds automated CI and CD
pipelines.
- Demonstrates expertise in the deployment of integrated or
stand-alone releases across multiple interconnected and disperse
applications.
- Uses industry standard tools to improve and speed up delivery
of our products and services.
- Provides fast and thoughtful issue resolution by executing
quick fixes or proactively identifying and solving problems related
to builds in production environments.
- Creates the pipeline to periodically generate code quality
metrics.
- Drives each team to be self-sufficient by providing tools and
training and brings different teams together to work towards common
goals.
- Coordinates resources across technology functions to stand up
and monitor environments.
- Configures and automates development and test environment,
deployment, automation and support test data management.
- Establishes workflows that use the automated pipelines for CI
and CD.
- Works closely with product and application teams to create
version control branching strategy.
- Works cross-value streams with other DevOps Engineers to avoid
and resolve merge conflicts.
- Develops tool integrations that allow for end-to-end
traceability for application development (from requirements to code
objects changed to meet the requirements).
- Assists in other areas of the department and company as
necessary.
- Works on diagrams and documents orchestration system solutions,
configurations, break/fix procedures.
- Defines and establishes standards for code and release
management (branching strategies, PR process, etc), and manages
versioning and governance for IaC (Terraform) versions and
providers.
- Provides specific, relevant reporting to process stakeholders
in support of root cause analysis, risk and event mitigation and
elimination, and automation.
- Develops a strong understanding of Costco and/or industry
Information Security policies and practices.
- Mentors and provides training to peers and value
streams.REQUIRED
- 8+ years' experience automating deployment with DevOps tools in
a cloud environment.
- 5+ years' experience supporting CI/CD tools Azure Pipelines,
GitHub Actions, and Terraform as platform administrators.
- Demonstrated proficiency with scripting languages, such as
PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, etc.
- Ability to make configuration changes at scale using any
scripting language or programming.
- Working experience with infrastructure as code building CI/CD
pipelines, from a greenfield scenario.
- Experience in container technology, including Kubernetes (AKS,
GKE) and Docker.
- Experience with automated management systems, such as Azure
DevOps/Ansible/Jenkins/Terraform.
- Experience provisioning and managing cloud services (Azure,
GCP) preferred.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to logically
think through problem situations.
- Solid understanding of application architecture, network
technologies, application security, and infrastructure
architecture.
- High integrity, accountability, a positive attitude, and
willingness to do what it takes to make the team successful.
- Team player; good interpersonal, organizational, and
communication skills. Creative, likes overcoming challenges.
- Proven ability to design, maintain, and continually improve
enterprise level solutions.
- Experience with SDLC in an Agile environment.
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle crisis
situations professionally.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the
ability to present complex ideas and designs to a variety of
technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Able to support off-hours work as required, including weekends,
holidays, and 24/7.Recommended
- Certifications in Azure, GCP, ADO, Git, Terraform.
- Understanding of security and vulnerability best practice and
design implications.
- Understanding of cloud design implications and experience with
Azure, or GCP.
- Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets,
