world.The Department of Pharmacology currently has an outstanding
opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 2.Under the general
direction of the PI, this position provides comprehensive research
to develop novel bioassays to validate potential protein targets
for drug development, and for the evaluation of potential disease
modifying agents using in vitro bioassays as well as in vivo in the
study of breast cancer and Cushing's syndrome.DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
- 60% - In vitro and In vivo work:
- Perform molecular biology techniques (i.e. PCR, DNA
isolation/sequencing), mammalian cell culture, protein biochemistry
and pharmacological cell signaling assays.
- Identify and evaluate the roles of novel compounds for
regulating in vitro phenotypes using modern cell signaling
assays.
- Contribute to the design and execution of cell and tissue-based
studies to investigate biological mechanisms of breast cancer and
Cushing's syndrome.
- Supervise management of mouse colony.
- Prepare experimental reagents.
- 20% - Data analysis and presentation:
- Keep detailed records.
- Analyze and interpret data.
- Perform regular presentations of data to the research
group.
- 15% - Administrative:
- Become aware of lab safety procedures.
- Write and update IACUC protocols for experiments.
- Liaison for regulatory agencies including IACUC and DEA.
- Perform budget management including tracking and
forecasting.
- 5% - Training:
- Training and directing other lab members including RSEs,
graduate and undergraduate students.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular
Biology or related field.
- Minimum two years experience or an equivalent education and
experience.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Experience performing Cell and/or tissue-based studies
including migration and proliferation assays.
- In vivo experience using mouse disease models.
- Experience with management of mouse colonies.
- Experience performing molecular biology techniques.DESIRED
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience performing protein biochemistry techniques.
- Experience with lentiviral mammalian gene expression
vectors.
- Experience with Microscopy.
- Must be able to learn budget management including tracking and
